Foundation Training Course: Training Syllabus
The Satvik Foundation Course is a programme of personal transformation and change and focuses upon the achievement of 'perfect balance' via the development of a strong and healthy mind, body and spirit. The course has a considerable focus upon 'energy practices' because of their phenomenal ability to cleanse and flush out from the body the blocks to 'perfect balance'. Because the course addresses the three vital aspects of well being i.e. the body, mind and spirit the syllabus is varied and includes:
Physical Exercise
We teach a specific form of Chi Kung; a powerful Energy Practice that enables
students to open up 'energy channels' in the body in order for fresh, vibrant
energy to flow into the body and flush out old and stagnated patterns that block
our experience of vibrant health. This practice is extremely helpful to those
who need to create and maintain high energy levels throughout the day;
particularly for those with demanding workloads or people in the caring
professions.
Active and Passive Meditation
Meditation offers the experience of inner stillness and peace. Meditation is not
difficult and we teach a number of active and passive meditations that enable
students to both use the 'busyness' of the mind to cut through our mental noise
to a quiet place within ourselves as well as passive meditations that enable us
to become 'observers' but not personally distracted or disturbed by our mental
chatter. We also use specific meditative energy practices that clear old
emotional patterns that have been held in our bodies.
Interaction with Nature
In order to achieve 'perfect balance' we encourage students to become aware of
the natural world around us. In our busy, western society where achievements,
goals, work and family commitments create tremendous pressures, it is easy to
forget that we are connected to the natural world and rely upon it for our
survival. Energetically, connecting to nature is an extremely powerful way of
revitalising the body, mind and spirit and during the course we facilitate an
opening awareness and relationship between the students and the natural world
around them.
The Work of Byron Katie
In order to develop a life of peace and balance we need to become aware and address the thoughts and beliefs that cause stress in our lives. Students will be taught how to facilitate and experience The Work of Byron Katie. Although The Work is a very simple process, it offers us freedom from the beliefs that cause us pain.
Counselling
In order to support your psychological growth during the foundation course, you will be required to work with a counsellor. The minimum requirement is for seven 1 hour sessions. Some students find that additional counselling sessions are beneficial during certain periods of the course.
Listening and Reflecting Skills
Because the course is a process of transformation, the ability to truly listen
and be emotionally open, non-judgemental, accepting and compassionate regarding
your own and others emotional journey is a very important element of the course.
The course will provide you with all the necessary knowledge and skills to
become a loving and compassionate listener without becoming anxious or needing
to 'fix' others or their pain. Acquiring these skills will improve the quality
of all the relationships in your life; personally and professionally.
The Energy Centres of the Body
There are seven energy centres in the body known as chakras. These chakras
relate to different aspects of our personal and spiritual development. We
provide an overview of the seven chakras; indicating the different life stages
that they relate to and how the health of the chakras are impacted by our
personal history. This element of the course enables students to gain valuable
insights into their own personal archaeology and how their life experiences have
led to the creation of core beliefs and values that may or may not be conducive
to their current good health. By working with a counsellor once a month,
students will have the opportunity to further explore how their individual
experiences and persona's might be impacting upon their lives, whilst also
learning how to overcome, heal and grow through these experiences.
Spirituality
During the course students will be encouraged to develop or deepen a spiritual
practice; using whichever path feels appropriate to them. The School
wholeheartedly embraces people from all religions and spiritual practices and
holds the view that there are many paths that lead to God. The spiritual focus
of the course does not conflict with any religions but focuses upon the common
themes that run through them all i.e. developing an open heart, loving ourselves
and others, forgiveness and acceptance etc.
Nutrition
We support the view "you are what you eat" and we provide an overview of how to
eat to become and stay in vibrantly good health. In order to feel physically
healthy we must nourish our bodies lovingly and provide it with foods that
support and not restrict the flow of energy around the body.
Satvik Energy Therapy
In order to deepen each Student's experience of 'perfect balance' students will
be asked to organise a course of treatment of Satvik Energy Therapy with a
therapist who has trained at the school. These treatments can usually be
organised on a donation basis. This energy treatment will act as a catalyst for
energetic change; which will greatly assist the student in their quest for good
health.
